About the Project and Instrument
This instrument is developed based on the “Human Rights Index” methodology, which helps assess an individual's potential vulnerability in society, taking into account various social and demographic factors. The instrument includes a questionnaire with 20 questions, where each answer is weighted with coefficients to more accurately reflect the individual’s life circumstances and potential social vulnerability.
It is important to understand that this universal tool is not intended to be highly precise in assessing individual cases. Its main purpose is to provide a general understanding of how certain demographic and social factors can impact a person's vulnerability in society. The index relies on statistical analyses and summaries that can be generally applied to many people. However, each person lives in a unique environment and has personal characteristics that may change their level of vulnerability.
For instance, a very wealthy woman in the European Union may not experience the same gender-based vulnerability as a less affluent woman in the same society, because her economic status may offset other vulnerability factors. However, this compensation is not guaranteed and can vary depending on individual circumstances.
Therefore, it is crucial to recognize that this tool is designed to help identify common factors that may increase or decrease vulnerability, but it cannot precisely assess every individual case.
Purpose and Application
This instrument is universal and can be used both individually and by community actors or policymakers who aim to better understand the scale and causes of social exclusion and discrimination among various groups. It is also suitable for educational activities, public policy development, or raising awareness about social equality. The instrument is applicable both nationally and internationally, allowing comparisons of social situations in different countries or regions.
